Mrs. Michelle Smith
Board Chair

Prior to receiving her B.A. in Sociology, Michelle worked in several group home settings with at-risk youth, many of whom were diagnosed with mental and emotional disorders. This work reinforced her vision of helping underprivileged youth find their purpose and their place in society. Eventually, Michelle decided to work with youth on a more individualized basis, so she opened her home to several young persons by becoming a therapeutic foster parent, which intensified her desire to assist with the emotional, academic, and social growth of not just the youth in her home but also those in her community.

In 2012 Michelle received her B.A. in Sociology from Fayetteville State University. Upon graduation she began working for Autism Society of NC. In addition to fulfilling her roles and responsibilities as a community service instructor with the Autism Society of NC and as a therapeutic foster parent, Michelle is also the founder and CEO of Uplifting Society, Inc., a non-profit organization committed to breaking the generational cycles of poverty in Fayetteville, NC.
